May 25, 2013 Week in review: Creative carjacking, shut-down bribes, weddings galore
Rosie — It was shocking to learn that I couldn’t get on WordPress, twitter or Facebook (the government banned them after the Tibet riots right before the Olympics) — and that annoyed me to no end. They are also obviously not letting Westerners into Tibet (maybe because they don’t want us to meet the people, who are DARLING and get even more enamored of the country than we already are & hence want to protect the Buddhist culture from being wiped out) .. but the people in the rural areas were enchanting. And the countryside is often gorgeous. The top photo was from my time in Sichuan’s earthquake rehabilitation area, the laughing woman is leader of a self-help group in Zhaojue (I loved her so much!) and the little girl was clapping to welcome me to Waxi Village .. along with about 25 other girls who danced and sang. How gorgeous is she?? Thanks SO much for the comment!

May 23, 2013 Southwest China's first modern tramway to operate in Chengdu suburb
Finally there is someone in the administration that understood that trams are the way to go: Silent and barrier free, much cheaper than subways (and you see the city not only ads in the windows) and lower maintenance costs than buses. Most important for city planers: thanks to their advantages trams are a mode of transportation that unlike buses CAN make people give up driving their own car around. I hope we'll see more this around China.

May 21, 2013 Sticky Business: Kendoka in Chengdu
Very interesting article from a person with a rich, diversified and cultured background. Questions are also something new, they're not your usual sports interview template, and make the whole article really enjoyable to read. One question though: what's a "kendo judo" (1st paragraph)?

May 19, 2013 Top 3 hall of shame: Chengdu cop regulates traffic violators [video]
yes you do. they are not "criminals" they just violated a minor traffic regulation. A witty cop make contribute indefinitely more than some authoritarian figure. This video is a good example

May 15, 2013 Donuts, donuts, donuts: Where to get them in Chengdu
That lozzi donuts opposite Champagne plaza (who comes up with these names) had to move diagonally across the street. But there is a new donut place at Champagne Plaza called CRAZY DONUTS, from the looks I guess that crazy refers to its customers

May 12, 2013 Ping'le Ancient Town
We went to Pingle today, the bus from Jinsha bus station to Qionglai does not operate anymore, instead we had to go to Chadianzi bus terminal (actual final station of metro line 2) and take the bus from there to Qionglai (RMB 23).
