yet another Chengdu bus spontaneously combusted, this time, a number 512 on the north section of the Third Ring Road at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday.
The bus was reportedly carrying more than 30 passengers who smashed windows in order to evacuate. One passenger was reported injured as a result of the broken glass.
The bus driver managed to put out the fire and reported that the incident backed up traffic for about two hours.
The bus, license number
川A4381, was a Kawasaki CNG (compressed natural gas) air-conditioned vehicle operated by the Chengdu Tianyun Transportation Co., Ltd. (
成都天运公共交通有限公司)
An eyewitness reporter at
Zhongqi New Media wrote
(our translation): "The big windows on either side of the bus had both been shattered, and the front of the bus opened, exposing the engine. 'The engine has been short-circuited,' said a bus driver who had come to help, pointing to the blackened engine. The bus's interior was in disarray; on the fourth row of seats sat a pair of high-heeled shoes."
Further investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
Yesterday, a
video of the bus sitting by the side of the road and the resulting traffic congestion was posted. In it, the cameraman asks onlookers what's happening. The first two men reply that they had just arrived; once they heard the commotion, they came down to take a look. The next two women say they don't know anything. The third man says he was at home, heard the commotion, and relays what he's found out. Finally the cameraman climbs onto the bus and films the broken glass, fire extinguishers, etc. and unsuccessfully tries to find out more information.
