Week in review: aftershock, RMB300 billion in investments, Fifth Ring Road
A magnitude-4.9 earthquake rocked the border of Beichuan and Heping at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday. The tremor was felt in Chengdu, Le Shan, Mianyang, Nanchong, Guangyuan and according to the Sichuan Seismology Bureau was a "late aftershock" of the 2008 Wenchuan quake. Although there were 16 tremblors of magnitude 3.0 and above last month, the bureau says that there is no need to panic that these quake signify that there will be another shake as large as the first.
The 10th annual Western China International Economy & Trade Fair ran from last Thursday to this Monday, seeing a turnout of around 50,000 attendees. Among the announcements made at the fair was that the 12 provinces and regions categorized as the country's "western regions" will receive 296 billion yuan ($43.3 billion) in investment from both Chinese and foreign investors. Among those were the Taiwanese Foxconn Group/Hon Hai Corp., who will build an RMB1 billion production center for its electronic and digital products and Siemens, who will open an RMB30 million global customer-support center.
Chengdu traffic was interrupted by heavy fog last Wednesday. Shuangliu Airport was forced to close for two hours delaying at least 63 flights and 5,000 passengers. The High-Speed Ring Road (the "fourth ring"), the Chengdu-Mianyang high-speed road, and the Chengdu-Leshan high-speed road all were closed temporarily.

Yet another bus spontaneously combusted in Chengdu last Wednesday evening. The bus was traveling from Chongqing on Chengluo Lu. No injuries were reported.

Starting next month, Chengdu patients will be able to schedule doctor's visits at local hospitals for an additional fee. Currently, patients seeking medical attention at hospitals other than Huaxi Hospital and the Provincial Hospitals must queue up on arrival.

Construction and Development
The Second High Speed Ring Road (and the city's fifth "ring road") is on its way. Construction will start early next year, it was announced at the Western China International Economy and Trade Fair on Thursday.
A mock Chengdu Metro Line 1 room opened to the public on Wednesday at Tianfu Guangchang, which will serve as the line's largest platform when the subway begins operations.

Construction on an airport in Le Shan will start next year. When the airport opens, it will offer 15 domestic-route flights.

Young Chengdunese kung fu master "Tiger" Chen Hu (陈虎), student of acclaimed action-film choreographer Yuen Woo Ping, is making preparations to direct his first kung fu film. Titled Kungfu Hero 《功夫侠》, the film will be funded by Chen's friend and student Keanu Reeves.
About 200 female inspectors in their 50s are on a mission to discourage residents from littering. "Female inspectors may show a stronger sense of humanity when regulating uncivil behavior and violators will take them seriously," said an official from the local urban management bureau.
