Are you tall and attractive? Do you enjoy loitering outside of buildings? Then look no further. In an effort to spruce up Renmin Nan Lu and turn it into one of the city's "primary streets," the Chengdu government will employ 100 pretty girls and handsome boys as chengguan ("city management"). The boys must be at least 1.7 meters tall, while the girls need only be 1.6 meters. The arterial's street cleaners will also undergo a transformation, with matching white uniforms and leather shoes to make them look like "5-star hotel employees." The government will phase in a new style of uniform with each season.
Putting even the loftiest chengguan to shame, the new tallest building in Chengdu began construction last Thursday. The 280-meter twin towers of the Chengdu Global Commerce Plaza are being built on Dong Dajie. A year ago this month, construction began on what was then to be the tallest building; the Global Commerce Plaza beats it by a full 74 meters.
A recent report from the West China City Daily states that Shuangliu International Airport will be connected to the city by two subway stations.
In another transportation status update, this time from the Chengdu Commercial Daily, it was announced that Chengdu Metro Line 3 will connect Hongpailou and Tianhui Town.
And finally, don't fret: the Chengdu-Ya'an rail is supposed to open sometime this year. The rail will provide a 40-minute trip between the two cities.

Zhong Xiaohui, a Chengdu noodle chef of 14 years, is planning to challenge the Guinness Book of Records with his noodle-making capability. He is able to dish out 30 bowls of noodles a minute.
The Chengdu Grassroots Film Crew is currently collecting advice from netizens for its next movie, Dulala's Promotion – Chengdu Edition. The group's film Don't Touch Me (别摸我) was the first DV movie to be released in theaters in China. A scene from the film was used as part of an official promotion for the Beijing Olympic Games.
More than 10,000 women showed up to audition for a chance to be the girlfriend of a single millionaire the Monday before last. Auditions for the 50 coveted spots were held in Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Changsha. The People's Daily Online noted this warning from "psychological experts": physical appearance and wealth may not be the most important factors in a successful relationship.
In an even scarier convergence, tens of thousands of toads began crawling onto the streets in Qingbaijiang and Shiling last Tuesday, worrying residents. A similar phenomenon appeared just before the 2008 earthquake. Zhou Rongjun of the Sichuan Seismological Bureau, however, said that the toads were merely reacting to the heat.
