The Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) is finally upon us, and we hope you're enjoying your well-earned holiday after all your hard work on the weekend.
For those of you who missed it, Dragon Boat races were held Sunday morning in Jintang County, and the GoChengdoo team was on the scene to put the "international" in "International Dragon Boat Festival."
Not surprisingly, the spectacle of foreign Dragon Boaters made local headlines (and this time, not our own)!
From Sichuan News Net:
"Hi-ho, hi-ho, hi-ho!" All calling with one voice, a colorful dragon boat was pushed along by the current. The reporter squinted at it closely. At the head of the boat fluttered a flag emblazoned with a skull, paddling inside were foreigners of all different skin colors. Had the pirates of the Caribbean arrived? Actually, they were a team of foreign students who had come to the Dragon Boat Festival just to experience Chinese culture."
That day there were altogether 20 entries in the Dragon Boat race competing for the prize. Among them, there were over 50 international participants from Germany, America, France, Holland, England, Australia, Lebanon, and so on. Regardless of whether they paddled the boat quickly or slowly, well or poorly, the spectators watching from the shores all gave them encouraging cheers. All of the team members were very happy and excited. The event, showcasing a traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival on the water, with ducks as prizes, left them all with a very deep impression.
Dragon Boat Festival festivities will continue in Jintang's Tianfu Shuicheng through June 20, including beer and snack activities as well as calligraphy and photography exhibitions.
