Chengdu's TV Tower is likely to open between May and October 2012, said its developers, who enlisted the help of retail giant China Resource Vanguard to spruce up the Chenghua District's Recreational Business District project, reported Sichuan Daily.
The larger project coined 'Chengdu 339' after the 339-metre-tall tower, is an 800 million yuan venture aimed at creating a large urban cultural and entertainment complex of leisure, shopping, arts and food facilities. It is also expected to value-add to the core development of the culture industry in the east of Chengdu.
Now that 'tower economics' has been figured out after engaging several consultancies, more construction can be expected as the main tower building undergoes modifications to add in 'creative elements'.
Also known as the West Pearl Tower, the Sichuan TV Tower is the fourth tallest tower in China, offering a view of the Chengdu Plain. A new public park is set to open in the vicinity in 2012, following redevelopment of the former Mengzhuiwan Amusement Park.
