A man surnamed Zhao was met with fists and punches from security guards after trying to seek compensation for his lost motorbike.
The bike disappeared from the Xinxiang Huayuan's compound after Zhao parked it at the round of a kerb, just 10 meters from the security booth.
Since all three bike parking areas in the estate were fully occupied when he went to park his bike, he struck up a verbal agreement with the security guard on duty.
The property manager on duty insisted that the property was not responsible for the loss since the area where Zhao parked his bike is not under official watch of the guards.
Lawyer Yan Zhao said that the existence of the verbal agreement makes Zhao's request for compensation valid. The amount of compensation can be negotiated between both parties or determined legally if it is unresolved in private.
However, the lawyer pointed out that is more difficult to retrieve evidence for verbal agreements and it is trickier to determine who is responsible for the loss in such instances.
Netizens strongly sided with Zhao, saying it is typical of property management personnel to shirk responsibilities. In this case, they found the security's actions and attitude uncouth.
