Ten photos of Chengdu in the 1980s

There were once blue skies, and the streets were not full of cars: Sina Weibo microblogger 成都记忆 ("Chengdu Memory") has posted photos of 1980s-era Chengdu (must be registered to log in).

Renmin Nan Lu

A flyover that was dismantled in 2003. Schoolchildren evidently donated their change for the construction of the flyover, and after it was built would visit weekly to pick up litter.

The Chengdu Hotel near Shuinianhe.

The hotel opened in 1984 and in 1992 became the first four-star hotel in southwest China. It closed in 2008 and was auctioned off in 2010.

Xinnanmen

Renmin Lu, although it's not confirmed whether it's Renmin Bei Lu or Renmin Nan Lu.

- Seemed a lot nicer here in the 80's. Can only hope that in 15 to 20 years it can become more clean again after this industrial age money craze passes

- Doesn't look like there is any pollution in the sky in Chengdu. Still looks like a great place to live even in the 1980s.

- @China_Newz true. I can see white cumulus clouds. What's wrong with fountain in front of the train station? But that wouldn't look any better now that 2nd ring road will be a bunch of flyover and bridges.
  I like how there's already somewhat bike lane.
