The Chengdu Commercial Daily is giving the world a new overview of Chengdu, literally, with its Aerocam bird's-eye-view videos.
The Aerocam (蜂鸟影像/"Hummingbird Photography") is a camera attached to a remote-controlled multirotor that flies over the city, capturing various scenes around Chengdu and surrounding areas, particularly those related to large-scale construction projects.
In these videos, it flies over the Second Ring Road in the south and then the west.
The Aerocam is particularly useful for showing progress over time of construction projects, such as the construction of the Elevated Second Ring Road ...
... or the High Tech Zone and Global Center ...
... or the #East Music Park aka Suburban Memory#.
The Aerocam also surveyed Wenchuan five years after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake (click here for part 2).
Chengdu SWAT training was also caught on camera.
The Aerocam relies on technology by New Zealand multirotor manufacturer Droidworx (the Aerocam is an unmanned vehicle with eight rotors).
