"Scantily clad," or just veggie fad? Image courtesy Sichuan News Agency
That seems to be the opinion of bystanders at Wenshufang Jie, who caught an alleged eyeful when several of Chengdu's female vegetarians paraded by with wilting vegetables pinned to their clothes last Sunday.
The march, intended to promote veganism, coincided with the 40th Earth Day.
According to the Sichuan News Agency, onlookers fished mobile phones out of their pockets to take photographs as the women passed by.
A report on CRIEnglish.com described the women's get-ups as "just a few clothes and vegetable leaves."
Whether or not the women's attempts at advocating a diet and lifestyle free of animal products will have the desired impact is questionable: Most of the reports centered on citizens' opinions that donning lettuce as clothing in public is merely a stir-causing tactic.
Whether or not you wear vegetables, there are plenty of vegetarian eating options in Chengdu. Check our food & drink listings.
