Delicious fermented soybeans, usually deep-fried, sometimes used as a substitute for bacon. Does anyone know where to find this in Chengdu, or how one could go about making it (I think that would involve getting one's hands on a tempeh culture)?

It's originated from my homeland country (Indonesia) and I haven't been able to find any in China. Though the soybeans are easy to get, but the fungus which requires to ferment the soybeans is rather special and unlikely available in China. I missed it myself :-(

Are you going to Indonesia anytime soon? Maybe you could bring some back here!
