Hello,
My husband, son and I might be moving to Cheungdu very soon. I have tried to search this Chengdufamilyliving-subscribe@yahoogroups.com but it is not on Yahoo. Has anyone else had trouble finding it?
I would like some information. I have a 4 month old baby and I need to know if I can buy his brand of formula and diapers. Also are there any English speaking pediatricians? Where is the best western clinic? Where do all the expats live? Are there any compounds equipped with a gym and a pool?
If anyone can share some info I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
- Nugget

We have lived in Chengdu for 4 1/2 years. I am signed up fro the Chengdu Family Living Group and have had no problems. I would try again. Try this address also: chengdufamilyliving@yahoogroups.com
What time of formula and diapers do you use?
There are English speaking drs, but not necessarily pediatricians. I do like Parkway Health and prefer them to Global Doctors. Both clinics have good drs, but I prefre Dr. Misch and his staff is excellent. Dr. Deborah is good at Global Drs, but the nursing and admin staff is horrible.
Most of the foreingers live in the south part of town around Ren Min Nan Lu and Tong Zi Lin Bei Lu. There are some foreigners south of town in Luxe Hills, but it is quite a drive and there will be construction for the next couple of years on the road leading down there. There are also foreigners at Egret Island and The Waterfront.
Egret Island has nice facilities. There is a new compound in the south called Europe City which is supposed to have excellent facilities.
I hope this helps.

Hi! Thank you so much for your response. Have you enjoyed living in Chengdu for the last 4.5 years? We lived in Shanghai before we moved to Vietnam and I was not really keen on Shanghai so I am a bit nervous about moving back into China.
I am using Similac Advance Eye Q Plus and we are using Huggies Diapers. It is easy to change diaper brands if I have to, but it will not be easy to change formula brands.
We used to go to Parkway Health when we living in Shanghai and I remember they were really good.
I have seen Egret Island online and it looks very nice. Similar to how we are living now in HCMC. I will also check out this Europe City. Can you tell me how long the drive is into the city? I am not sure that we will have a driver so what is the public transportation like?
Last question, is there any kind of mommy and baby groups? Or International Ladies?
Thanks!

Hi,I'm a local here. I can understand your feeling when you move to a country/city where not many ppl can speak English and many signs are in Chinese. Especially this city is not so developed. When I come back from Hong Kong where I live for 2yrs,I don't feel quite comfortable with this city as public facilities,e.i.transportation,bank, still get a long way to improve.
If you have any problems or questions about housing, baby raising,transportation....you are welcome to contact me.
Anyway, welcome to Chengdu.

We are coming for a "look see" trip. Please advise on the best housing compounds to look at.
I would like a house inside a compound in an expat area. The compound should include gym facilities and a swimming pool and lot's of space to take my baby out for walks.
Does anything like this exist?
Thanks
