Why is it that when a bike goes over a pedestrian crossing in CD the pillion passenger has to get off, walk across and then get back on at the other side?

I just don't see any valid reason for it?!

    :-)

Asked my coworkers and they said that there is actually a law that prohibits a passenger on a bicycle or battery operated scooter, and this is only an issue at intersections, since this is where the cops and flag-wavers are.

Of course there is nothing on any government website stating this, but there you go.

Safety? Having two people on a bike/scooter on Chengdu streets is dangerous, as I have learnt from own experience.

now riding on the back of electric bikes is only legal if the driver is at least 18 years old and the passenger on the back 12 years or younger
