This review is for Nuhi's deli which is the "new" Kaffestugan. It is by far the best Italian food I've had in Chengdu. The owner is a real gentleman who went out of his way to make me something that wasn't on the menu. I had the large pizza which was a real delight. Also he does the pour over coffee which is still by far the best coffee in the city. Prices are very reasonable. Same exact location as Kaffestugan. The owner's phone number is on the forum for the bread post if you want to inquire about the menu or the hours.

I had a chance to taste their panini, pizza (parma), merengue and 2 belgian beers.

The pizza is highly recommended. Good taste, structure, very decent prosciutto and not just 3 small pieces.

I found the sandwich/panini (ham * cheese) spicy and tasty but perhaps it could be baked just a minute longer to make the dough a bit more "crunchy". However it will taste better than 99% of the paninis you can find elsewhere in Chengdu.

The special belgian 'cherry' beer (in a red wrapper) was not cheap (75 RMB) but a great drink ; I didn't find that anywhere else in Chengdu in a (normal) restaurant.

The interior is nice, relaxed, a good place to hang out with some friends and have a good evening unlike many chinese restaurants where you basically want to leave after you finished your last sip or bite.

Just for everyone to know, Kaffestugan might be closing it's doors but May 23rd Nuhi's Original Deli opens up in the same location. We will keep the best of Kaffestugan's heritage whilst adding a lot of great stuff. Opening hours will be predictable and steady: Tuesdays through Sundays from 11:00 to 23:00 (kitchen closes 22:30).

Keeping it Simple, Keeping it Fresh

We'll specialize in simple but fresh, Italian inspired dishes. At Nuhi's Original Deli we'll bake several varieties of breads as well as many different cakes and cookies - hot from the oven, daily. At our deli counter you'll find fine salamis, cheeses, butter, olives, boutique wines from all over the world, and a large selection of Belgian craft beers.

On our menu we have great Napolitana-style thin crust pizza and focaccia. There'll be a variety of sandwiches & panini on home-made bread, as well as salads, pastas and desserts. And our artisan ice-cream will be the talk of the town.

    Coffee from the Heart

In every cup of hand-dripped coffee there is a bit of love from us to you. This is one of Kaffestugan's great additions to the Chengdu food scene that Nuhi's Original Deli will gladly continue offering.
Hand-dripped coffee is unique because it provides you with the full, rich flavor of each coffee bean through our measured brewing process. Brewing by hand brings Chinese tea traditions together with Western coffee culture.

Since hand-dripped coffee is ideal for enjoying the flavor of fresh coffee beans it is usually drunk black. This delicious coffee is strong on flavor but never muddy or bitter. To ensure the freshness of the coffee Nuhi's Original Deli only uses the coffee beans within two-weeks of roasting.

    Our Menu

We'll make all our daily key ingredients fresh. Breads, pizza dough, tomato sauces, mayonnaise, all are made in our beautiful little kitchen. We only use daily fresh market produce, alongside high quality imported goods. Sourcing these products is our specialty. That is why you'll only find the best European cheeses, the finest cold meats, and a great selection of wines in Nuhi's Original Deli.

We hope to welcome you all.

Really sorry to see Kaffestugan set sails. Everyone still got the chance for a last visit this week.

I'm shocked the past couple reviews were so low! Everybody I know loves this place.

Food is good, Service is great, coffee is good, and I love my membership card.

I think what's happening here is the usual phenomenon: people only go rate something when they're unhappy. All of my friends really like this place and speak highly of it. It is a great default location to just pass some time on a lazy Chengdu afternoon.

Good for chengdu...lacking creativity. Nice owners, but lukewarm coffee is not desirable.

A delightful, quiet, and charming cafe. The deserts are delicious, the sandwiches are to die for, and the drinks are made with care. The owners are dedicated to making sure you feel welcome and are more than willing to do what it takes to make sure that you enjoy your time there. And best of all, it's what a cafe should be: a place that you can sit and relax.

Nice food and decent coffee, but prices has gone up and dishes are getting tiny. Uncomfortable chairs and boring layout. Too much downtime and full with students sitting there zipping tea and taking all the seats.

Without a doubt, my favorite place in Chengdu. The owners are welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is clean and comfortable, the food somehow even TASTES clean and healthy. I've had just about everything on the menu, and I've never had anything I didn't like. I've even been willing to try food that I'd have otherwise passed on simply because of how good prior meals had been, and I was surprised at how things that didn't appeal to me could be made so tasty. The selection of books is nice, and the clientele are usually worth talking to. I've made quite a few good friends over a sandwich there. Favorite place in Chengdu, 100%.

I must agree with Berly C's feedback. Nice place if you want to spent some quiet time, though gets kinda boring after a while..

I have gone to this tiny cafe a few times. I am not quite sure why it deserves the reviews it does. Sure the owners are nice, but the environment is boring. Straight out of Ikea...really nothing special at all. The coffee is ok and always served slightly above room temperature. The sandwiches are small and average. Often the place is full of students that linger for hours with only the free tea. Overall, a very boring environment with nice owners. Only in Chengdu is this a place to talk about.

I love this cafe! It's one of my favorite places to relax, and the coffee can't be beat. It's an expat sanctuary for when you need to get away for a while. The owners are also very friendly and considerate. The food menu isn't incredibly diverse, but it has some very nice sandwiches and Swedish dishes. I almost always order the weekly special soup, and I've never come away disappointed. Compared to Starbucks, the prices are only slightly higher, the atmosphere is homey, and the menu is devoid of corporate gimmicks. And you've gotta love the 10 yuan coffee refills. If you're an expat in Chengdu, please support this place. It deserves its accolades.

My weekend go to place to relax and enjoy a good strong cup of coffee!

The food is great and the owners and staff are super attentive and caring. Very rare in the Du!

I second the complaints about frequent (and sometimes long) downtimes though. Can be quite frustrating to head over only to find the place closed. But they have been doing a much better job announcing them recently.

Used to be one of my favorite cafés in Chengdu and I'm occassionally still going there to enjoy the absolutely amazing coffee. Too much downtime and pricey dishes (still very good tasting though) have made me visit less frequently. Overall a very nice little place but I wish they could keep open more often.

I'm a big fan of this place.

Clean and comfortable atmosphere, really warm and welcoming servers/owners, fast internet, iced coffee with ice cubes made from coffee!, cheap/delicious sandwiches, no smoking inside.

The coffee and salami sandwich cured my hangover in no time, not to mention I downloaded all of that show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Child" in like 20 minutes.

Forgot to mention....while waiting for the pug to open at 5 pm we were stopped in to Kafestuggan for a coffee. Awesome. Iced coffee could not be, not watered down and addictive. Cool little coffee cubes. We did not try the food...yet...but will be back!

This place is pretty great. Calm environment (even with all the craziness going on outside!), and incredible service. Also, they are really knowledgeable about their coffee, and have a good selection. Recommended!!

Have not come here in a while, but JEEZZZ! HOW DID I FORGET!?! This place is AWESOME, DELICIOUS, AMAZING!

Comfortable environment with great service and even better food. One of the top western options in Chengdu.

Sandwiches, Sweedish dishes, i want to order them all (and often order three things to split with two people). It just gets better and better!

Ooooo yeah and the coffee... well if you think the foods good, you got another thing coming once you try their coffee. Could be the Best Coffee In The City.

Thank you Kaffestugan, for taking me on an hour long vacation to The West, with only a 15min cab ride.

Nice Swedish cafe with plenty of good dishes and drinks. The hand dripped coffee is superb. The dishes might look small but are actually quite filling. Go for the sandwiches, they are really good. The owners are as friendly as anyone could be.

If it wasn't for all that recent downtime then i would give this place 5 stars for sure.

THE ICE IN THE ICED COFFEE IS MADE WITH...COFFEE!!! i have died and gone to coffee heaven...when i was there yesterday, one of the owners noticed me happily crunching away on the iced coffee balls (NOT cubes! perfect spheres of coffee goodness!) and brought me a tiny ramekin of honey and a spoon and said, "you know, if you eat them with a spoonful of honey, it's a treat". yummy yummy yummy yummy...have been a fan for ages, but didn't know about the ice. they really leave nothing to chance. pure class. long live kaffe stugan!!! 百分之五百巴适的很!!!

I went to this place first time this week, I was a bit disappointed after reading the many good comments about it. The coffee and pastry selection is excellent, prices are affordable and the staff is extremely kind (quite rare in Chengdu). However, I found the place to be too small and somehow without atmosphere. For me a cafe should be a place where I feel good to spend a few hours reading or browsing internet and this was not the case here. Somehow the place is too small. It's impossible to conduct a conversation without being heard by everybody around or reading something without being disturbed by the next tables' conversation.

After two years of hearing great things, and occasionally turning up only to find the place closed*, I finally spent a morning there this week. Such a good experience I came back with family and friends at the weekend and could easily see myself slipping into what appears to be a large crowd of regular customers.

Quite possibly the best coffee in Chengdu, great food, caring owners, friendly staff and very reasonable prices for the quality of food and drink on offer. A huge selection of single malts as well which I will definitely be finding an excuse to come back for.

    * In fact I arrived this time only to find the place still closed and — despite there being nearly an hour to go before opening time — was invited in anyway and offered a drink while I waited!

The bathrooms are clean. (I don't know about you, but I judge a place by how clean their bathrooms are, yea, I know you do too.)

The potato salad is just like the kind my mom makes.

    The deserts are scrumptious..

Service is good and the staff is friendly.

Great place to hang out with friends or get away for a few hours.

The free glass of tea they serve is delicious too.

Want good coffee and pastry? Stop spending your money at Starbucks and try this place!
You'll walk away having spent less and not complaining about watered down flavorless coffee.

They have coffee from around the world, as well as a nice selection of pastry and sandwiches.

    Plus, 10th drink is free

    Best coffe in Chengdu!

By far my favourite cafe in Chengdu. Delicious swedish food and superb coffe. The people working there are super-friendly and always in a good mood. It's a quiet and clean place, perfect when you need to escape from the busy city life. I can't complain about the prices either, most western cafe's tend to have higher prices.

The iced coffee saved me (nice liquid brown sugar that they serve on the side)!! There's a few blends to choose from and the owners are so sweet. Plus you get a little cookie with each coffee and there's good little sandwiches, teas, coffees, cookie platters, waffles, and more to choose from. It's a little spendy (maybe 30-40 kuai if you get a coffee plus some little pastry or a sandwich), but it's worth it! I am a smoker, but it's actually nice that you can't smoke inside (before 8pm!).
