Last night I went to Le sud, I had eaten there before a few times and really enjoyed it, I often recommended it to my collegues in Chengdu. When we arrived the waiter was very helpful and friendly and showed us to our table. When we sat down he recommended some food and translated the Chinese wine list for me.

The wine list was really expensive the cheapest being 180rmb for a bottle of wine from Chile. They were selling Spanish wine at around 300rmb for a bottle and 45rmb for a glass. I recently had a wedding in Chengdu and we bought similar tasting Spanish wine for 35rmb a bottle??. The price per glass list was not on the menu but instead was placed in a difficult to see area at the front of the counter. (to my disappointment I only noticed it after ordering three glasses of the spanish wine)

Anyway I ordered the Spinach and potato soup and my wife the goose liver. The food was ok and well presented, the restaurant at this point began to fill up. I ordered the "french style" pasta for my main course and when it arrived to my horror, the pasta was covered with carrots, sweetcorn and peas. Never ever in my life has a plate of pasta looked so colourful. The taste of the the pasta with the bacon and mushroom decent, but i had to navigate around the vegetables which i am sure were bought frozen in metro or carrefour. When I did get a mouthful of frozen vegetables it was not good.I also ordered a glass of wine.

After a while we were joined by a friend and after spending 10 minutes trying to get the waiters attention he ordered a bacon and mushroom pizza. Now the Pizzas in le sud used to be some of the best in town, not anymore the pizza when it arrived had a base that was far too thin and overcooked to the point of snaping at the touch. loaded with chese and not with bacon or mushroom.

The service staff kept changing the music videos on the big screen, starting off with Edele which was quite pleasent and easy to listen to and finishing with Lady gaga on repeat whose music videos were more like porno, Don't get me wrong a bit of Lady gaga at KTV gets the place going but at dinner???? not classy

And to top it all off when we got the bill it was 320rmb for 2 starters, a plate of pasta WITH sweetcorn and carrots, a Pizza and 3 glasses of cheap tasting Spanish wine WOW!!!! never again. The owner has put money before quality disappointing disappointing disappointing!!

We also happened by here many times to find them closed...when we arrived at 11:45am one day to actually find the door ajar, the young man abruptly and in a very dismissive manner told us that they didn't open until noon. We acquiesced to his wish and went away leaving him to get back to his video game or qq messaging. Haha.

Seems to be closed pretty much every time I went there. But it was good when it was open

Those are actually two numbers, a mobile and a landline. The mobile is 13880758271 and the landline is 86663023.

But as far as I can tell, Le Sud is closed, probably for good. I called a few weeks ago and was told that they were closed and "would start renovating soon", but it's hard to tell if that's actually true or if Julien's just packing it in. It's a shame because when he was there, Le Sud was really, really great!

I think the downfall of Le Sud came from an injury that required Julien to be away for an extended period of time, during which the local staff were unable to provide the same level of quality. Around that time is when I started to hear and personally experience problems with consistency and I guess it's been downhill since then as they struggled to get their customer base back.

But if they are indeed renovating, then I would run back to them with open arms!

Any one knows what are the times that this place open/closes? I want to get lunch on Tues, but wish to know the hours. There is NOTHING on the interwebs in regards to this. Hard to gauge this place if there is no way of contacting them/finding out what they have to offer (aka planning ahead).

Also, the number that is listed here.. I highly doubt it has that many digits, which makes them impossible to contact if one is new to the area.

It's 25-35 yuan for a pizza on TUESDAY nights.

Very delicious and satisfying pizza, though the very poor service truly exemplifies the advantages of the tipping culture back home.

Service was good, food was tasty and hot, presentation was good. The restaurant was a little smoky and they had terribly small napkins, but aside from that, it was an outstanding meal.

Our table had the lamb (which was fantastic), the chicken with morels (also astounding), and the pasta carbonera. The pumpkin soup was good. For the appetizer - sun-dried tomatoes and parmesan on toasted bread - the cheese should have been grated instead of in thick chunks, but it still delicious.

All in all, a truly excellent meal and we will be going back soon.

    In the land of the euro-cuisine blind, the one-eyed french owned restaurant is king... However;

    - Service far from regal
Owner surly and doesn't answer phone. Dishes arriving VERY late. Unwelcoming staff.

    - Food not fit for a king
Recommend the lamb, but the chicken dish was watery and lacking flavour. Pizza dishes quite good.

    - Decorated by someone lacking vision
Environment bland and completely lacking in atmosphere

    - Monstrous racism
Racist banana black man picture sits on display in corner

    I pledge no allegiance.

Small menu, good service, food depends on what you order - their pizza is truly great, but my girlfriend's shrimp dish tasted Sichuanese which was odd. Still the best European style restaurant in the city.

Came here for dinner on Sunday and the restaurant was empty. The wine was OK. The chicken leg dish wasn't as flavorful as I would have expected. But fortunately the pizza crust was thin! My creme brulee wasn't brulee enough, but it wasn't overly sweet so I enjoyed it. Anyway, will give it another chance.

The closest to real Italian pizza with the crispy thin base. Also the chicken leg in red wine sauce is amazing.

    The food is very nice.
I give it 5 stars because there is NO better Mediterranean restaurant in CD.

Avoid the pasta dishes as they lack both seasoning and flavor. The pizza's are ok, but lack seasoning as well.
The meat dishes however are VERY good, albeit a bit pricey. Try the lamb!
Overall this is a good place to eat western food, but wouldn't call it French cuisine as maybe 3 out of 12 dishes are French.
On a side note: it's pretty bad for a French restaurant to serve ice-cold red wine... even in China.

Not haute cuisine, but very well executed rustic-style French dishes. Service was good, beer list could be better.

My dish was just delicious, as was the apple crumble.
However, my friend's meals weren't as good and it's shame they don't have their own (clean) toilet.
I'll go back soon and see what else they have. A new menu each month is a great idea.

I like this place. The food is great, except they put mushrooms on stuff unexpectedly. I dont like mushrooms. The staff here is great though, and they are always happy to serve. I recommend it. This place gets The Baron Stamp of Approval.

Downside first: uncomfy seating, no own toilet, instead you have to go the mall toilets, the corner is the hardest to get a taxi from during the day, no cheese burger:)
Plus: creative cooking, great value, monthly changing menu, great boss, one of the very few restaurants I can recommend, even though I don't like all the dishes it's an interesting change from the Western restaurant routine. Worth going every month, try the lamb if you like meat, dessert: creme brulee, pizza: calzone.

Excellent European-style food (although not exactly French!), friendly service, and intimate setting inside. My only complaint - some flies buzzing around the light fittings hanging over the tables.

One of the new places to go for pizza in town. Although I am a big fan, it could perhaps be described as a 'marmite' pizza - love it or hate it!

Very thin crust, to the point that it burns through in places and sometimes can't support the toppings. This said, it has a kind of rustic appeal and tastes great. The toppings on the veggie pizza are very generous with lots of cheese and enough tomato sauce to balance it out. The large selling point is the very reasonable price and generous size.

Delicious creme brulee dessert and veggie lasagna as well.

Like many of the others who have frequented Le Sud, I am a massive fan of Julien’s restaurant. The food is usually cooked perfectly with attention to the slightest details, the pricing is fair and the comfortable yet chic modern atmosphere really adds style to the meal. A nice selection of imported wine, and a monthly rotating menu keeps the customers guessing and coming back. I would highly recommend ordering a dish which has lamb ribs or salmon; I have ordered these two frequently and each time they were, at the risk of sounding much too keen, absolutely divine. Cooked flawlessly and with the perfect condiments. However, (and I hate to criticise BUT) if you like real pizza this is not the place to go. While many of my friends completely praise the pizza, I was not happy. To start with, it was cold. Next, it was completely covered in cheese with no sight of any tomato sauce… where did it go? That having been said, I remember the crust was lovely. I also wasn’t a fan of the onion soup, too many herbs (rosemary in particular). Would I recommend Le Sud? Absolutely.

Nice food, extremely reasonably priced, intimate atmosphere. The only drawback is that the menu is rather limited in its selection; but as it rotates every month or so, it's not too bad. Definitely a go-to place if you're looking for something other than Chinese food.

Valentines day, also Chinese New Year, the place was packed and staffed by two. The chef served a set menu and the friendly atmosphere of the place encouraged customers to set and clear the table for one another. A 3 course meal was prepared and served to all of cabbage salad w bruschetta, Lamb chop & chicken leg w couscous, and a pastry for dessert. Friendly atmosphere, top food and fun times!

Great food! A friend and I went all out with an appetizer (delicious bread with tapenade!), dinner, dessert, wine and coffee, and it was less than 90 kuai. The lamb was excellent and the dessert with coffee was a nice finish.
