- Rare well-preserved Ming Dynasty tomb found in Longquan
If you follow the Chinese news there is hardly a week passing by without the Sichuanese digging up some old stuff. Today they found a Ming dynasty liquer brewery in Yibin.

- Running: Half-marathon training in Chengdu
@sean
the link works. I don't see that Chinese couldn't take part in this event. But I assume that a full promo would blow that event out of proportions.

- Chengdu's New Café Street
@oddball
4 years ago there was only the loft hostel no.4, then a year later the dodo's cafe opened and gained momentum when the loft's own cafe copenhagen closed down. Around 2 years ago there were like 1 place to the left and right of the loft no.4 hostel and opposite the morning bar opened."New" refers to as there is an accelerated growth of cafe/bars going on, with a new place starting out every other month NOW. So it's becoming a new bar/cafe street, and soon might appear on the tourist map just like the parallel kuan/zai/jinxiangzi. And some of the places literary just opened up at the time of shooting. And the bike was invented AFTER Christ.:)
@andrew L
Why has it not collected enough votes to even make it to the "runner up" at past reader's polls?

- Size Matters - Giant shopping malls take over Chengdu
Take Jacques Tati's "Traffic" or "Play Time" as a reference and you see how ugly the "architecture" and how retarded the urban planing were in Europe in the 60s. China's just repeating the transformation process the Western world went through a couple decades ago, unfortunately with a very flat learning curve.

- Baby pandas decrease productivity in offices around China
This pandamania all the time is annoying. The Japanese pay an annual fee of 79 million yuan for their 2 new pandas, which works out at RMB5000 an hour per beast!

- "Impulse Brother" gives traffic police flying kick
10 days for that with the evidence on video? I'm pretty sure anywhere else in the world he'd spend months in jail at least.
But it's in a way comforting to see that sometimes(!) China's judges can be quite moderate and reasonable.

- Free public buses and bikes plus more transportation news
@spandolf
you def. have a point that at RMB1-2 the bus fare is not the problemIf at all it's just part of a whole package
Hasselt in Belgium shows how
http://en.wikipedia.org/[...]
but it's not the only place
http://en.wikipedia.org/[...]However
"Consistent market research and experience over the last 50 years in Europe and North America shows that car commuters are willing to transfer some trips to rail-based public transport but not to buses. Typically light rail systems attract between 30 and 40% of their patronage from former car trips. Rapid transit bus systems attract less than 5% of trips from cars, less than the variability of traffic."
http://www.claverton-energy.com/[...]
so my favorite public transport is still the low-floor tram
