High attendance does not always means high quality meals. BK and Hooters are FAR from the best meals i have had in CD. Those who would even mention those two establishments (they are not restaurants), i would cut them from my friend's list fast.
BK is just nostalgia food from back home. Out of all the fast food joints, they do house the best burger, though their contenders are Kentucky Fried Chicks and McD's.. Not much of a line up. It's cheap and readily available.
As for 'Flat titties'.. No.. I would never associate myself with such a place. Food there sux and the under achieving workers there can not dance and has hopes to hitch it up with a foreign dude... Been there once, def the same sleeze balls as in the states that would go there, if not worse.. Because it's 'China.' I WOULD think about venturing there if they had UFC on, since UFC and Hooters has a contract to show events, but alas that does not apply to China.
Best Western meal in CD.. Lazy Pug. Hands down.
Best Chinese food i had... Local muslim noodle shops, cheap and damn good.
Best BBQ.. Those DIY places that are less than 60 RMB unlimited.
Best Hot Pot.. Debatable, i like Chongqing hotpot in CD in Yulin (yes you read that right).
That's it.. CD has more to offer than BK and 'Flat itty bitty titty'.
JUST came back from this pace.. It was dead inside, so the 'workers' are idling and doing nothing. So i go inside, mind you it was 3:50, late lunch and proceeded to order.
I ordered: Something BBQ chicken dish 38 rmb, 15 RMB humas, 15 RMB Turkish Naan, 24 RMB fries and 33 RMB for additional chicken? WTF?!? Seriously, why would 'extra' chicken be 33 rmb for a dish that's just 5 RMB more? So the extra sauce, rice and veggies are f'in 5 rmb? If so, then ill just order that from this point on, becuase 33 RMB for two piece of chicken isnt wroth it (note the dish already comes with 2 chicken, i just wanted to add more to it). Prices are skewed, total 125 RMB. I usually let this slide, since im a foreigner and normally get fucked by locals when it comes to prices
Now the 'wait.' I just got home now, 4:40, so literally, i waited nearly 45 minutes for my food (i live about 5 min from this hole in a wall place). 45 minutes for a few dishes? When there are no other customers? There is one cook, a waitress and the lady boss. All checking their phones or taobao when they had a break from cooking my food... Great service! Normally being the next customer to be served something i look forward to, because i can get my food and get out.. Not here.... That late lunch turned into dinner...
So of course i was pissed, 40 minutes of me being there, THEN the owner rushes her lone cook to finish the order.. AT THIS POINT? I might as well work there for the time i waited for a few dishes!
This isnt the only occasion when ordering food there, that the wait was atrocious. One time i ordered two Turkish naan to go. I had to wait over 1 hour!!! Just two orders of bread!!
I would avoid this place, they only have one cook, who usually doesn't do too much, a waitress behind the counter always on her phone and the boss checkin taobao... NOt sure if its a combo of Turks and Chinese, but this isnt a great way to run a business, let a lone one customer at their establishment at the time.
Oww, yea... They put the bread at the bottom of the carry out bag.. Nice...
Any one knows what are the times that this place open/closes? I want to get lunch on Tues, but wish to know the hours. There is NOTHING on the interwebs in regards to this. Hard to gauge this place if there is no way of contacting them/finding out what they have to offer (aka planning ahead).
Also, the number that is listed here.. I highly doubt it has that many digits, which makes them impossible to contact if one is new to the area.
First time I been to the Lazy Pug.. Got lost too. They should advertise that its on the basement floor.
Anywho, I love the 'Pug.' There are allot of Expats there, so it felt like home (mostly Americans, while other pubs are allot of British peoples). So the pub had the look of a lounge. I would rank them to a good lounge in NYC, the vibe was very similar; not too loud music, very knowledgeable staff and western toilets!!!
I could not comment on the food, because I had pizza. The pizza was 'Mikes Pizza.' Not sure if its common for 'Mike' to tend pizza there, but I thought he cooked out of his apartment.
If he reads this, he might know who I am, I asked him briefly about New Haven pizza, since pizza was originated there.
My review on the pizza, as compared to US pizza would be 6.5-7/10. I am a pizza dude and know my pizza well. It obviously ranks above the crap shit pizza known as pizzahut and dominos. The reason why I rank it 6.5-7 is that I had the best pizza in the world, Modern, so its hard to judge pizza against those standards. Heck, I even had 'NYC' style pizza which Mike keeps mentioning, but NYC is too broad. Not sure if he meant Manhattan or Brooklyn pizza, because there is a HUGE difference between them Brooklyn pizza. But nothing compares to Modern, Sally or Pepe's, and #4 Bar pizza, all of new haven. I would say its a general bar quality pizza (Not a restaurant called 'Bar' thats in Downtown New Haven). Which isnt bad by any means.
Though what I do like about Mikes is that there isnt any heavy 'after taste' like most pizza parlors has. They use fresh ingredients so that their pizza has that higher quality taste. That is something I notice first and foremost. The pie was 12 inches, which is about a 'small' in the states. Price is about 11 US for a personal 12 incher (yea say that without a giggle), so thats similar as well.
Yet on the flip side, since its the only good quality pizza around, I would give it 8.5/10 for China pizza. Hopefully its common for Mike to cook pizza at the 'Pug.'
Now mike as a person; Since I mentioned the New Haven style pizza, he kinda had an attitude. He might have been asked allot in regards to pizza, which I can understand, but hey, when someone misses pizza from home, theres no reason to look down on their customers. Not only that, he was in a band that was playing. I asked him to play some 'Jason Mraz.' He did not take kindly to that... Meh, I guess im not 'white' (im Asian American) to make an impact on him (excuse me because I had a few Jameson in me). Yet since hes the only OK pizza dude around, ill just have to suck it up and go to him, until me and a local New Haven county person here can try to mimic New Haven style pizza!
