I'm looking forward to reading about your exploits. As a Latina in Chengdu (in CHINA!) who prefers Asian guys (actually yellow or brown guys in general but foreign men in china tend to be ew) I have already had many of the experiences you will soon be having. I find my mannerism and style of interacting, communicating and expressing my feelings are being changed the more time I spend here. I am also finding with each emotional disaster that the next attempt is easier and better. Learning to communicate and express my affection in a Chinese way, instead of overwhelming guys here with my directness seems to be working much better than walking up to them and saying "hey! You're cute and I like you!"
Female American teacher with 7 years teaching experience in China, with all ages, looking for a public school job inside second ring road (inside first ring is best). Particularly interested in high school or primary school but open to others. I specialize in reading comprehension, test prep and writing skills. I can assist students seeking to study overseas.
I am only available tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays during the day until the end of February. If you have something appropriate, please add my wechat: msinglynx.
Do NOT add me for weekend jobs, training centers or night jobs. I am not available friday til monday. I am willing to take on new 1-1 students during the day IF they book several hours per week. I charge 300 p/h for private classes.
Small (54m2) apartment available in Jiuayanqiao next to laomalu. Walking distance to Sichuan Daxue, next to a farmers market with tons of yummy food and cheap restaurants. Near the music uni which is apparently famous for beautiful girls and handsome boys. 2 blocks from bar street, across the bridge from a huge shopping mall (h&m, starbucks etc) and a lot of gyms. Super nice area.
I'm moving because I am paying 4300 a month between my office and this apartment so I decided to consolidate them into 1 location (literally around the corner from here). The location is great, landlord is awesome, complex security guards are super nice, apartment is clean and well maintained, etc.
About the apartment:
Tiny but real 1 bedroom apartment (not a weird window-studio set up). It is appropriate for 1 person or a very small couple. Bedroom has a nice sized balcony that looks out onto the street but the window keeps noise down if you close them. Working ac and washing machine. New, full size mattress from Ikea (soooo soft). Tiny bathroom (super annoying shape tbh but TIC). Combination kitchen/living room. Sofa is small but comfy. Nice flatscreen that can read usb. Tiny fridge. Granite counters, a fabulous gas range and some kind of high end smoke suction thing that will not leave any smell while you cook (super useful cuz the apartment is small). It is important to note that this apartment is right near the music uni so you will be able to constantly hear people playing all kinds of instruments like the star wars intro music on trumpet, final fantasy 7's running around piano music and so on. I personally find it super relaxing to wake up to pianos (around 10am) and they usually stop by 9pm but if you are sensitive to noise, this place is NOT for you. The neighbors and guards are extreeeemely friendly, honestly some of the nicest people I have met in Chengdu so if you like practicing chinese, this is the area for you. Wifi has been hooked up and I am willing to transfer it to your name (they are like vampires, refuse to use the same equipment even if it is brand new and charge ridiculous rates) and you just drop by their office and pay 100rmb a month or so for it. The maintenance fee is also around 100rmb a month and I have paid it until December. If you contact the owner through me there will be no agents fee (I originally paid 1780 for that). I am looking for someone to take over to ensure I get back my deposit because I have only been here 2 months (found a better place to host my company/bad planning).
If you want to see this apartment please add my wechat: msinglynx
It is available from monday.
I'm looking for 1 or more primary/kindergarten teachers in Jiuyanqiao area who can refer students to me for small group private English classes. The commission is 5-10% of the first contract depending on how many classes the student buys. I'm also looking for referrals for uni students from the music school, adult education college and sichuan university who plan to move abroad in the next year and need to prepare for testing or general daily living skills. Payment is sent via wechat immediately after student pays fees (usually takes about a week for students to express interest, come for a placement test, check out a class, etc). However, this is a wholly foreign operated center so it focuses on functional English. If students want grammar for Chinese tests, we can not help them and turn them away or send them to another teacher. We also turn away students/parents with unrealistic expectations (improve ielts score by 2 points in a month with no english foundation, make my kid sound like a native speaker after 3 classes, etc).
We offer classes for all ages from 4 up to adults. IELTS/general test prep, oral english, reading and writing, topical classes in english (math, science, history etc for kids moving overseas), arts and crafts and so on. We arrange bimonthly or monthly cheap or free activities for the students such as camping, cooking classes, archery, holiday parties, etc. Most of our students are studying intensely and plan to move overseas within a year so we are prepared to deal with their unique needs.
This is a commission based side activity for teachers who are not allowed to work outside of school but still want extra money. I am not looking for business partners.
For more details you can contact us through this wechat: msinglynx
Thanks for your interest.

I taught for this guy. He is basically a 1 man operation who has borrowed another school's license to "legally" hire foreign teachers. Somehow he has managed to convince some schools that he can provide legal teachers. The truth is he is living in Changsha and all the funds sent to him for payment go to his personal accounts.
I have worked for him since March. I was finally paid for march last monday after refusing to continue to work without payment. He told me 3 times the money was sent before finally his then-partner (who has since quit) actually borrowed money from her parents to pay me. Now he is refusing to pay me for last month despite teachers from the school trying to convince him to do so. He currently owes me around 13,000RMB as follows: 1500RMB for an ebike he promised to reimburse me for because the school was not (and I quote) "just 20 minutes from your house", 446rmb from a health certificate he claimed the school demanded of me to file the legal transfer of my foreign experts certificate to his (fake) company. His (former) partner kept my paperwork, including visa and diploma for more than a month while pretending to file the paperwork for the transfer. They also told me to sign a "fake" full time contract with them to facilitate the paperwork (because my visa expires in July, so I only intended to work for them for 1 term, which they knew), around 9000RMB for April wages and around 2000RMB for the first week of May's wages.
I have photos of this guy, as well as his license, his & partner's wechat messages admitting to lying to me to hire me, then lying to me throughout the 2 months of working for them. I also have text messages from him saying that he will not give me a penny of my pay, making up some sort of imaginary conversation in which I supposedly said the exact opposite of what I actually said (seriously I think he is mentally ill. He did this so many times on wechat that I already blocked him from accessing my moments 3 weeks ago and would only have contact through his partner). When I told him that I have the legal right to report him for fraudulent hiring (pretending to file legal paperwork) he told me they could never find him in Changsha. I am more than happy to show you all of these things in person if you need to see them.
Absolutely do not trust this guy. He doesn't have any partners in chengdu and he doesnt live here. you wont see a penny. The only reason I got paid last month was because of the partner fronting her parents money. Don't make the same mistake as me and please warn your friends. This is a real job only in the sense that you will really work your ass off (1800+ kids) but you will never get paid and the school will do nothing to help you.
I've just rented a large apartment in a walk-up on Gaopanlu and have a spare room available. The apartment is 2 bus stops south of Chuanda south gate and about 15 minutes by bike from Sichuan shifang daxue on 2.5 ring road. Nearby there is a wet market, tons of restaurants and a hongqi right across the street.
My strong preference is for a Chinese female (student?) who is interested in learning more English/plans to travel soon because this room is only available from now until the end of July but I am open to foreign students (including male students) as well. The room is 800RMB per month and half of the utilities (wifi, water, gas, electric, maintenance). You should prepare the rent for the entire time you want to live there plus 1 month deposit in case you damage anything (washing machine, the new tv's etc). Utilities will be paid whenever necessary. Room is available immediately. Couples/friends can sure the room but the rent will be 450 per person. No religious or racial preference, LGBTQ friendly.
Due to foreign guys acting like completely psychos, absolutely no male English teachers.
Ideal roommate is a couchsurfer/enjoys travelling, between 20 & 35, likes to go out together with friends but not constantly, cooks, likes working out or trying to lose weight healthily (dancing, swimming, etc) and doesnt mind cleaning kitchens (I'll do anything else but I hate washing dishes). Hopefully you really like art & music. Although this is short term, I'm hoping to make a long term friend.
About the house: spacious but small bathroom and kitchen. It has a brand new western toilet and washer/dryer. Currently it's empty of dining room/kitchen supplies and no tv but I will buy all new everything by the end of the month, including a flat screen tv. Sunny bedroom has a big window, closet, bed side table and chinese style (thin mattress) bed in the bedroom, which you can decorate as you like. I have already gotten a thick mattress pad and some pillows to make this room more comfortable. Big, comfy sofa and you are welcome to have friends over any time, including overnight guests. My room will have a great deal of gym equipment that you are welcome to use when I'm not. There are a lot of plants and a kitten. If you dont like or are allergic to either please dont contact me. My last roommate killed my last cat so I might be a bit paranoid on this.
About me: 30y/o american woman but apparently I seem about 24. I'm trying to lose weight but I'm lazy and love cooking too much. I can speak basic chinese fairly fluently and have lived here 3 years. I usually work hard monday-friday then go a little crazy friday or saturday night then sleep all day sunday. I love dancing hiphop, singing at ktv, swimming, biking, making art, watching sci fi etc. I'm working on starting an art education company.
Please share this ad with all your non-crazy, no drama, female friends. I'm looking to find a roommate before March 1. You can add me on wechat 1354043033. Due to creepy male ex roommates, I can no longer give out my phone number.
So basically I'm trying to find new hobbies. I'm definitely going back to flowertown and Jah bar cuz I think those things will be different every time. We may go camping or fishing next month and I am definitely going to travel in august.
As for suggestions: Elite I really wanna go to your class but I think it rained both Saturday mornings. Are you still doing them?
Hahaha of course sadeq, let's go!
Yokyojim I do that too sometimes.
Colin rpg are not really my style at the moment but maybe in the future.
Photokid I'd love to hang out. I already met one person thanks to this post and she seems alright. Just send me a message with your contact info.
Lol zharahk well I don't really blow up or start hating on everything but maybe you are right.
Hey guys I thought I should update. I tried doing some new things this week and I do feel way more energetic and relaxed (or could be cuz I have way less classes now that it's summer haha). Anyway:
On Mondays I've been going to a weekly couchsurfing dinner party and trying to meet new people. This past week I went to Jah bar and finally really participated (not just run in shyly and grab a beer to drink outside) and let me tell you, free styling feels amazing and I am definitely gonna do it again. This weekend I went to flowertown with a student who showed me around a huge pond and then took me to some working artists studios. Today I cleaned out my koi pond, added some new fish and got to enjoy actually being able to see them. In the evening I went for a bike ride along the river and ended up at a second hand market inside Sichuan u.
So I'm trying to come up with ideas of what to do: on Thursday nights I've created a couchsurfing event at lantown. My friends and I are looking for a local pool. I'm gonna teach my friend Spanish so she can teach me piano. I will take Chinese lessons twice a week.
I think either carols by the river or shamrock or moonies has a west coast swing night. Not sure how good it is or if it's still on or what day but my friend used to go every week. Almost positive it was Moonies. Anyway, I think any of those locations would be open to starting an event if enough people showed interest. See you at salsa night some time.
Hey Elite. thanks but I know how to maintain my blood sugar. that particular event was intended/organized to be a chill ride out to enjoy the hills and farms in longquan. We didnt realize those guys were hardcore extreme cyclists and we ended up trying to catch up thinking they would wait for us "just a little further". Instead we went miles past where we planned, chased them for hours and ended up at the top of a mountain in freezing cold with no restaurant in sight. We ate at around 3 o'clock only after I threw a tantrum because I was dizzy from riding hard for 7 hours with only 1 break and 2 bananas. Since then (and I kind of think for obvious reasons) I pretty much assumed all those guys were tools and had no desire to have anything to do with any of them. The whole event almost killed my love of biking and ended up with me and a friend having a fight so :p
As for the class saturday: sweeeet. All my guy friends are crazy about calisthenics at the moment and I've been wanting to do it more often. I know plenty but I always get distracted so a led class might be just the thing. I will definitely check it out.
Zhuren: haha, I only play mahjiang with kids and they always kick my ass :p
iraglassismyhero: woah, all kinds of awesome advice! Def gonna check out the museum ASAP (this weekend actually). The Mr. X thing sounds awesome too. Are the clues in chinese or english or? I'm kind of wierded out by bath houses? I kind of assume I must get naked at some point and not really keen on doing that in font of super skinny chinese people hahaha.
Volunteer: I'm already registered on hands on chengdu :D
Hi Hunter. I think Jujitsu is a bit much for me (I have weak wrists and ankles due to a car accident) but I took judo when I was younger and would love to do it again.
Hey Ziich, actually I have been on a bike ride to Longquan with those bike polo guys. They are pretty hard core and dont seem to care or be interested in anyone who cant keep up with their frantic pace. I actually ended up with dangerously low blood sugar and almost passing out last time I hung out with them so, sorry I am probably not gonna check those ideas out.
But flowertown party and happy valley are definitely in. I had to miss this last party because of work so I'm happy to hear there will be more... As for happy valley, I am getting my friends together to go in June. Does anyone want to join us?
