    • Forums > Living in Chengdu > Chinese people don't study kung fu??

@ Jozephine, DearJoze, Currently I'm in Inner Mongolia and will be back in Chengdu on May. I would love to talk to you and lets keep in touch.

@ mori666, Dear mori, Samueli institute and MediYoga Foundation are some of major institutes doing scientific researches on yoga and other body & mind healing traditions. I can point a dozens of institutes which I kept in touch but the above mentioned institutions were presented their papers to Swedish Reviewing Forum. Please go through the following links for details.

That is actually a pity this new generation doesn't follow the great wealth of traditions but the blames should not be totally from them. In China there is no any research or scientific attempt going on for Tai Chi. There are Plenty of local researches in acupuncture, cupping or Chinese medicine but you will never see any Chinese researchers in western or international forums. They mixed their traditional arts with modern technology tremendously (best examples are peiking opera and mass, minority performances. they are in international standards now) but no attempt in scientific or medicinal researches.

@Jozephine. Dear Joze. I'm not interested women's Magazine that you mentioned. And I did not want to condemn the impact of Tai Chi or Qi Gong. I just said that medical studies have proven yoga is much influential than Tai Chi or Qi Gong. I myself a consultant physician and also practice Kung Fu for 19 years. For my yoga and Tai Chi practices, I have only a short history that of about 10 years. So, I have experienced the impact of all.

The real yoga is not what you see in China and many other counties cheaply. You can have even "Hot Yoga" from China (LMAO). Tai Chi is 1000 times better than this new traditions of cheap yoga. Once I went to a well advertised yoga class in Chengdu and seen they are doing nothing but some things like Hip-op or belly dance. BKS Iyengar will commit suicide if he see what has happened in HOT YOGA.
You can read the Website of America National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. They have done clinical studies in this regard. Also, a group of practitioners have researched and submitted an article to American Journal of Health Promotion. The Head of the sports and health Branch of US Army Lt. Gen. Eric B. Schoomaker recommended for the soldiers to do yoga because of it's impact on healing pains. I personally participated for European Medical Reviewing Forum in Stockholm once and There were some interesting studies on Yoga and Tai Chi. If I could find, later I will send you this link for further reference.
honestly, I do not have any intention to promote yoga or underestimate Tai Chi. I'm a Turkey born Indian and I love all these traditions that healing mind and body. Having an Indian origin doesn't mean me to give more marks to yoga. For the mind, the best practice WOULD BE Buddhist meditations what defined as "Samatha" and "Vidassana".

But as a medical practitioner I would recommend both yoga and Tai Chi (actually qi gong is a style of tai chi) and those are much better than treadmills. For you, this also would be a bold statement but again I will provide clinical examples if you wish to see. Thank you very much for giving me an enthusiasm to share more ideas. I really like to see your experiences and share more things with you and all.

Tai Chi and Qigong are totally different practices from Kung Fu. Tai Qi or Qigong are sort of relaxing and aerobic exercises. That promotes the balance of the body and concentration of your mind. But even clinical studies have proven that the impact of them are really less. Yoga is more influential than Tai Qi or Qigong for the mind and body.

Kung Fu (gong fu 功夫 in Chinese) is totally differ from them cuz, it's a martial art by it's philosophy and practices. I also tried to practice more but it was hard to find a good master. Once I was lucky enough to meet Master Li Quan in Chengdu. He offers Kung Fu and Wu shu classes for locals but he agreed to help me too. He is a really good in fast kicks, strong punches and he had one attractive pupil who can do Butterfly Kick (Spinning Kick) (though it's a fusion of Kung Fu and Korean Tae Kwon Do) in an amazing speed. But when i was away from Chengdu I missed the links with them. But try the following link of his school. May be you can find the luck.

My advice is if you have already practiced high skills, don't go to ordinary masters cuz, China is no longer a place where you can see masters of their amazing ancient martial arts traditions. Practice more and more what you studied and practiced. But if you meet a real person like Li Quan, then you can lean some new things which you can't learn from western masters.

    • Forums > Travel Sichuan > Flight Chengdu-India

Still no any flights directly from CD to Chennai or Delhi. Easiest way to fly via Bangalore or Bangkok. For Visa process, it is important to apply very much in advance. The officers are really nice in the Guanzhou Consulate but better to give them a time to proceed it. If you going to find visa from a travel agent, try to find one which is registered into Consulate program.

      http://www.cgiguangzhou.org.cn/[...]

Use this link. That is the official link of the Consulate General for visa purposes. That would be better for directly dealing with the office.

    • Forums > Living in Chengdu > Apartment complex-Great for kids (6 & 8 y.o.)

      Hi there,
I'm not trying to selling an apartment and I'm not an agent or a broker for that.
But I'm a reader of Gochengdoo and just want to give you some info, cos, I have been here for more than three years.
When you trying to find a home, never go to a place which are besides of the streets here.
You can find a thousands of agents but you will not be able to find the same agent if you go there in a week after your first visit.
Second, please make sure that the apartment does not have Ikea furnitures. Cos, if it is with Ikea furnitures, you may have to pay many yuans for damages.
If you want to find a place for a kids, make sure about the availability of transpoart for the international schools.
Never mind about the hospitals and medical cares, since, all are the same sucks in chengdu.

    • Chengdu > Cacaja Indian Restaurant
      印度菜菜

just wanna share somethings with this as an Indian.
So, I think the people here said this is good either have paid by the restaurant or never tasted authentic Indian food.
There are no better Indian food place in Chengdu.
Shangrila's Indian dishes are okay. But you may not have many options.
Tandoor has the best authentic Indian food but nobody can try with its 7star prices.
So, forget about indian food in Chengdu and browse a recipe and try to make your own.
But if you want to have some mixed rice and yoghurt in a cheaper price, go to Cacaja. In that sense at least Cacaja is there.
