    • New regulation bans rickshaws from Chengdu's central areas

I'm new here, so not totally up to speed on the issue, but from just a month in town I can say that the amount of three wheelers and motorcycles that drive on the sidewalk is a real menace. Hope this new ordinance, if enforced, will at least curb that practice.

FYI, the international school QSI (located within American Garden) is having a big yard sale on Sat. May 25th from 9am-3pm. You can donate your used items or rent a table for 50 RMB and sell your stuff.

Have you heard of this "booster" device that a friend told me about? He bought it at Carrefour and it fits on the DSL line and "boosts" the signal strength. He said it really improved his speeds. I'd like to buy one but don't know what it's called in Chinese.

Wondering who's got a good internet provider in Chengdu and who that is? We're stuck with China Telecom with a stated rate of about 1mb/second but imagine it's about 1/8th that on a good day.

Are there other providers and systems becoming commercially available in Chengdu? Fiber Optic, anything?

    • Forums > Living in Chengdu > Simple method for cleaning your water dispenser

      From the Huffington Post...
      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/[...]

"We're constantly stopping by the office water cooler in the summer. But because there's always water flowing through it, we often don't realize that the cooler, can get, well dirty. But how doing you clean such a bulky machine? Luckily, we've found a relatively simple solution.

First, unplug the cooler and remove the water bottle. Then, drain excess water by pressing the two water spigots. Next, remove the top of the water safe and add one teaspoon of vinegar for every one gallon of warm water to the cooler's well. Leave this to soak for five minutes. As the solution is soaking, take a cloth, dip it in the solution and clean the exterior, including the spigots and water safe. Then, drain the solution as you did in step two. Replace the water safe and install a new bottle of water. Finally, drain half a pitcher of the clear water from the spigots to completely flush out any remaining traces of vinegar."

Let me know if this is helpful...or better yet, if you have a better way to clean and disinfect your water dispenser, please share!

The Giant store on Kehua Lu is pretty good in terms of stocking a mix of street/road/mountain bikes. They also have a service department and sell a small amount of supplies. I own a Giant brand bike bought in the US and it's good quality. I'm assuming the bikes they sell are all manufactured in Taiwan, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have to say, the hamburgers are the best I've had in China, hands down. My kids love the food, too! Very nice staff.
