• Chengdu native Ping Wu stars on U.S. TV show Project Runway

I was wondering what part of China she was from when I was watching the premiere!

You can check the air quality here, but it only updates once a day for Chengdu.

Chongqing, in March, was the closet marathon to Chengdu that I know of.

However, there are lots of both full and half marathons to choose from in China. List (in Chinese) of this year's races here:

• Forums > Food & Drink > Mason Jars in Chengdu

I actually saw canning jars today, with the snap lids, in the new Wangfujing Department store on Kehua Zhong Lu - the big new mall that used to be Bailian Tianfu. (Maybe third floor? It was the housewares level.) It was not Mason but some German brand. They were about forty to eighty yuan each, depending on the size.

The ten kuai or so canning jars on Taobao are not Mason but look like they would work just as well. I've never tried to do home canning here but if I did would probably do like my mom and re-use commercial pickle and jam jars.

The place in Tongzilin, did you go recently? I thought it had already closed.

Sabrina's does have the milk, however they charge a whopping twelve yuan per can there. You can get it at Summer's for eight and a half.

• Chengdu > Sultan
土耳其餐吧

This is one of the better non-Chinese restaurants I"ve been to in town. I don't find it pricey, except for the meat dishes. The hummus and eggplant dip are very good and prepared with proper attention to texture. Sometimes there is a long wait for food, but it is always worthwhile.

nice place to sit with a friend, but the coffee is pretty terrible (way past not fresh) and pretty expensive.

• Chengdu > Café Z

A great buffet, but not the greatest value. At lunch the sushi looked pretty bad and the dim sum station had chicken feet but no shrimp dumplings (which appear at night).

The desserts are outstanding.

Come here to sit and read a book or have a glass of wine, the atmosphere is nice. Hop over to Zoe's or the Sultan if you are hungry.
