Does anyone know if it's possible to use jingdong baitiao as a foreigner in chengdu? They have a foreign passport option but everytime i try to finish the acitivation i get an error about my ID 身份证号格式错误. The info for my passport is correct and I have definately selected the passport option so I don't know what's up.
Some of my other friends have said they weren't able to set it up either with the same problem. Are we actually able to set this up or is it restricted to Chinese despite having a passport option?
jingdong baitiao is a method to do a payment plan without a credit card (just need a normal bank card).
I managed to get an internet plan for my phone but it's really unbelievable how they do business here. The first place I went to was a pretty big china mobile store, I had to take a number and wait 30 minutes for my turn. When I tried to open an internet plan they told me you can't do it with a passport and that you need a shenfenzheng. Then they said they'd call another China Mobile for me that can process passports and after the phone call, they told me that store can't do it either. They suggested I go buy a china unicom card and use that instead.
So naturally, I ignored their advice and went to the store they supposedly called only to find out that they can open an internet plan for me. I'm guessing it is an annoying process to change account details for people with a passport because they just kept grumbling to each other how it was really mafan the entire time lol. Even though they just kept complaining with each other about how annoying it was, it still only took 10-15 minutes and I was good to go.
I don't know if the other store lied to me, or if they were just really incompetent or what but it's pretty unreal that stuff like this happens. Honestly, I almost just want to give China the big middle finger and switch carriers anyway but my apartments internet is attached to that account and I still have another 3 months left until I can switch.
I guess i'll try another big store then. I just don't understand how I was able to use my passport to buy a card and start the 8 kuai plan but can't use it now to update my plan. It makes no sense. The big store I went to today tried calling another store that can process passports but they apparently said they can't do it either. I'll still go there in-person and try though. I'v already put a couple hundred kuai on this sim card and updated all my stuff with this number so I don't really want to switch numbers again and go over to unicom.
A couple weeks ago I got a china mobile sim card for various reasons with the cheapest plan they had, 8 kuai a month. The first store I went to couldn't process passports so I had to go to another store to buy the card.
Then I lost my phone which had my main sim card, a china unicom one so I decided to use the china mobile card as my main with the new phone I got. I went to the store to open an internet plan on my phone an apparently you can't use a passport to open an internet plan anymore. You can only open one if you have a shenfenzheng.
Anyone else have any experience with this? I had a china mobile sim card 2-3 years ago and remember opening an internet plan back then with it but for whatever reason it seems like foreigners just can't do it anymore.
I shop at sabrinas from time to time, they have a lot of items I can't usually find at Carrefour or Treats.
They pretty much only have American brand stuff but they have a huge selection of stuff. I have 2 problems with Sabrinas though:
1. Their prices are significantly higher than other places. There are several items at sabrinas which you can find at other import stores for 25-40% cheaper. However, they do have some good priced items. Tortillas for example, they have 3 different kinds and you get more for a much better deal than anywhere else I'v seen them.
2. This might be bad luck but my friends and I have had awful luck with some of their boxed items. One friend bought a box of cereal and about half way through the box, he found out that it was infested with cocoons and webs. It almost made me throw up when I looked inside it. Another friend bought a bag of cheetos and they were the stalest things we have ever tried. I have had stale chips and snacks before but these took it to another level, she ended up just throwing them away after eating a couple of them. Lastly, I bought some noodles from their before and after we started cooking, we noticed all these little black bugs floating to the surface of the water. Turns out 2 of our 4 bags we bought were infested with these little black bugs that you couldn't really see from the outside packaging.
I still shop at sabrinas to buy the occasional tortillas or what not but I only buy certain items and I try to stay away from any boxed/bagged items that I can't see clearly.
