Hi,
i also think that the dorm is overpriced and you can get something better outside the campus. In case you want to live with some chinese people inside the campus for a very cheap price, you can check the website "http://www.lsxk.org/frames.html".
It is the forum of the chinese students and you can get a lot of information in it.
All in chinese, you will need a chinese friend for that, just shout from any windows and you're gonna find one.
if you type "租" in the search bar, you will access the announcement for renting a flat. For example i currently pay almost half of the price of a shared room at the dorm but i have a single room, just sharing the flat with five other chinese students.
Every friday in front of the sport center, there is the english corner when you can definitively find some help if you need so.
