@Meekael - You contradict yourself. First you say you have "no license what so ever", then you say you have a "class 1" license and are "licensed to drive anything and everything". Which is it?
Not having a license is fine until you crash, or someone crashes in to you. No Chinese license means no insurance. No insurance means deportation and possibly jail time in addition to covering all the costs yourself. Advising people to drive around unlicensed and thus uninsured is rather irresponsible.
You also need to check your facts about driving without a license. You can be fined up to 2000RMB and be detained for up to 15 days. If a friend lets you drive their car then their license can be revoked. The police officers you have met previously might have let you off. Things are changing though and they might not be so lenient in the future.
I converted the HUGE .doc I used to a reasonably sized .pdf and uploaded it to a file sharing site: http://www.mediafire.com/?jc3ablmrrafwbl6
There is also a mock test available on-line. You need to use Internet Explorer. Make sure Minicar is selected then hit the big red button: http://www.cdcgs.cn/[...]
1. I would assume you could get one done in the afternoon somewhere. Both hospitals I checked said only on weekday mornings.
3. I read that the temporary license has a very basic theory test. What side of the road do you drive on, what is the speed limit etc.
